There is a musical project hiding in the Miami shadows. It’s unlikely you’ve heard of it, as they have yet to perform live. That said, you’ve likely met its wild and wicked frontman, Javier Rockadicto while stumbling around dirty South Florida dives. You would know him from his strong, gorgeous features and incredible velvet voice. That’s precisely how I met Javier, and am somehow favored enough to have been sanctified by his unholy charm since.
Those who have heard of Hurlingham Beta, named for the suburb of Buenos Aries, Argentina from which Javier hails, are rabid fans, and the project has established itself as a dirty, provocative, electronica-monstrosity of Hialeah’s deep underground. Javier’s voice alone is enough to make people stop what they’re doing, just to listen. His presence, as intense as it is stunning. This alluring personality, coupled with a hypnotic, dark-vision makes his music, and himself, easy to love.
On the first and only Hurlingham Beta album, known by the same name, catchy and addictive songs like video-single Down and enslaving Iguana suck you in, while the hilarious brilliance of llama Sex Dance, my personal favorite, leave you both a little nervous and possibly like, erect.
Upon listening to the album, you may not be surprised to hear of singer Javier and his associates' international infamy. Having received death threats for controversial political statements in the past, Javier’s main project, The Rockadictos are another story for another time.
If you could, por favor, help me in my begging HB to please, please, please come out of the dark and put on some live performances. I know we would all be honored by witnessing such sadistic sensuality.
